The exhibition, "Leonardo da Vinci, Inventor and Scientist," which has drawn more than 50,000 visitors since it first opened its doors at the Exhibition Centre in Gournes, will be extended through January 5, 2010, it was announced by Gouves Mayor Yiorgos Nikolakakis.

The popular exhibition which opened in April was scheduled to close last month.

"The continuing popularity of the da Vinci exhibition, the increased educational interest as well as an excellent attendance by the schools from not only our Prefecture but also other regions of Crete," Mr. Nikolakakis said. "And, with students returning to class after the summer holiday, schools are continuing to ask to arrange visits, which more than justifies the extension."

The mayor said the organization of the exhibition was "received very well, upgrading our municipality as well as our exhibition centre."

He added that the continuation of the exhibition has the support of the Iraklion Prefect.
