OLDER PEOPLE CELEBRATE
THEIR SPECIAL DAY

Five coaches were needed to handle the combined members of the KAPI organisation covering the areas of Hersonissos, Pano Hersonissos, Analipsi, Potamies and Gonies who celebrated the official Day of The Older Person last month with an excursion to Rethymnon.

Co-ordinated by KAPI officials, the party explored the historic city, with ample time to enjoy the harbour and other sites, before heading for lunch high up in the hills at the taverna of the picturesque Ostrich Zoo Park in Episkopi on the way back to Hersonissos.

Following the lunch, which was accompanied by live music and dancing, the celebrating seniors visited with the unique ostriches, and other animals, that roam the farm.
For many on the trip, it was the second exciting activity within weeks.

Previously, KAPI organized an excursion to the island of Milos, with two coach-loads of members leaving Iraklion on the ferry, which made a stop at Santorini, before arriving at Milos' main port.

The first day included an excursion around the island, including the capital Plaka, as well as the famous catacombs, considered the second most important Paleo-Christian monument in the world, after those in Rome.

Also, the visitors discovered that it was on the island of Milos that the world famous Aphrodite of Milos (Venus de Milo) was discovered. The excursion also included a visit to the famous theatre high above the catacombs.

On
the second day, the party set off for an all-day sea cruise around the island, where the most fantastic rock formations, which the island is famous for, could be spotted.

Places also spotted included Sarakiniko, a lunar like area, with white rocks and dazzling effects, then, around the next bay there was Kleftico, an old shelter of the pirates, surrounded by a cluster of white rocks with many caves.
