The House of Literature is now open in Krasi, in the Malia municipality, according to town officials.

Created with the co-operation of the Malia Municipality and the Greek Centre for Translated Literature and Human Sciences, it is housed in the refurbished, stone-built, village grammar school which dates back to the 19^th century and functioned as a school until 1975.

Now, after works that lasted three years, it has been remodelled as a hostel but maintains all its architectural characteristics.

"The House of Literature offers suitable conditions for any literary or translational work," Mayor Kostas Lagoudakis pointed out. "It provides a calm atmosphere, inspirational to professional writers and translators from all over the world."  

The House offers two double rooms, a fully equipped kitchen-dining room, computers and a library. Writers and translators can stay at the house, for periods of one week to one month, after making arrangements with the Greek Centre for Translated Literature and Human Sciences at www.ekemel.gr. 

The House also functions as a space to conduct business events and seminars. It is where the "Krasi Circle" event takes place annually since the year 2000. During this event, important theatre personalities and literati gather in Krasi.
