Part Two:
Keep the mouth moist:
The best way to maintain a balance in saliva is to drink lots of water and
liquids. In order to avoid dry mouth syndrome in winter use a mouth
moisturizing spray. If you snore or suffer from allergic rhinitis, use a
nose spray to maintain the nose passages moist.
Watch what you eat:
Avoid foods and habits with bad smells, like onion, garlic, tobacco and
coffee. Prefer foods that help in keeping your breath clean, like tea.
Polyphenols, which are found in tea, prevent the growth of bacteria that
cause halitosis. You can also chew parsley which neutralizes unpleasant
smells from other foods and bacteria. Blackberries also help in the
neutralization of bad smells and moreover prevent the bacteria from sticking
in your mouth and creating dental plaque. Finally, sugarless chewing gum
that contains xylitol can kill certain bacteria and decrease the forming of
plaque.
Make sure you eat carbohydrates:
It is obvious that the only way to avoid ketosis is by consuming foods rich
in carbohydrates. Eat, therefore, fruits, vegetables and cereals. If the cleaning of the
tongue and the other tips offered above do not bring the desired result,
then you must visit your dentist and check for cavities, ulcers, gingivitis
or situations that encourage microbes taking up residence and whose
metabolized products are foul smelling. |

We are entering winter and our children will have a rough time with viral
infections. They will probably develop a fever and perhaps will get stuffy
noses and begin to cough. If they only develop a fever, what you need in the
house is two different antipyretics so that you alternate every three hours.
A paracetamol (Depon or Panadol syrup) and an
antipyretic/anti-inflammatory like (Ponstan or Gantil or Algofren syrup).
Some ready-made fever compresses will cool off the child. Or, you can make
your own by wetting a cloth in water mixed with some vinegar. If the fever
persists, give your child a tepid shower, leaving the water to run on the
child for some time. If it's a stuffy nose then you must clean it often with
ampoules of saline solution or sea-water. Thusly, the child will breathe
freely and you will avoid the danger of the child suffering from otitis or
sinuses from the mucus gathering in the nose.
If the fever does persist for more than two to three days, or the child has
other symptoms like cough, difficulty in breathing, or yellow-green mucus in
the nose, then you should visit your paediatrician.
Also, because the viral infections tend to dehydrate, give them lots of
liquids and natural juices, especially those with vitamin C strengthening
your child's defence mechanism. |
