ASI 1 - MOHOS 1

With a strong will, but without a final result, the Mohos team tried to score three points against the Ierapetra team who took the heat in spite of the other team's pressure.

The Ierapetra team, which stands with its back against the wall in this year's district championship – being that the team only got its first point during the match with Mohos – played defensively, trying with counterattacks to score against Mohos and, having a good set-up in the field, tried to get them to bring the game around to their favour.

The visiting team opened the scoring just in the second minute with a nice pass from Xydakis from the penalty line. Mohos could have scored more since in the 17th and 28th minute they lost some classic chances with Mihelakis, and on the 41st with Anyfantakis. The Ierapetra team tied on the 43rd with Tsingos after Mohos' sluggish defense. The first half finished with that score. In the second half, the two teams had more chances, with Tsiamis from Mohos on the 55th to miss out on a kick, and Ierapetra's Angelakis  on the 57th and Topsidelis on the 60th who also missed scoring.

The referee, Mr. K. Stavroulakis often used his cards resulting in the Mohos team to be left with just nine players after a second yellow card was given to Marinakis on the 62nd and Xydakis on the 67th. He also gave six yellow cards to the Ierapetra team.

Angelakis and Frouzakis stood out for the Ierapetra team and Marinakis, Tsiamis and Vistakis for Mohos.

The refereeing of the game was not the best because of a thoughtless use of cards, and assistant referees Tovil and Frylakis from the Hania association did not impress.

Dedication To The Mohos Team

From 1987, when the Mohos Athletic Association was founded, until today, it has accomplished many achievements with last, but not least, to shine in the regional Crete championship. A very good – though riddled with administrative problems – last season, classified the team in 2nd place in this year's regional championship. Many people were changed and the team has a new coach, Mr. Zaharias Nikokyrakis, who, after the resignation of Coach Aris Vasiliou, has been building up the new team with much gusto and knowledge using a new roster of capable footballers and a powerful administrative program.

With steady steps the team advances in this year's championship, having amassed nine points with one victory, six draws and two loses. The team's plans for this year are to lead a respectable course, to make good appearances and stay in the regional championship. The sports fans of Mohos support this new effort by their thunderous presence in every one of the team's games.

The administration board of the Mohos Athletic Association has laid the foundation for the team's future by putting together the Youth of Mohos team with Nikos Diamantakis as the team's coach.  Since last year, the youth team took place in the local championship, 3rd category, Iraklion, aiming to bring up footballers for the team's future course. Also, three teams – junior academies - have been put together with children eight to 14 years of age all from the neighbouring villages. These teams have been playing in children championships with many good appearances to-date.

Boxing:

"On December 12 there will finally be an American heavyweight champion again. I am sorry for ruining Klitschko's Christmas holidays," said American Kevin Johnsone. Johnsone is unbeaten in 23 fights and has nine knockouts to his credit. His opponent Ukraine's Vitali Klitschko will be defending his title for the third time and the bout will be held in the Post Finance Arena in Berlin.

Tennis:

The Davis Cup final, to be played in Barcelona December 4 through 6, will be Spain v Czech Republic. Spain currently holds a 3-2 lead over the Czechs in their head-to-head series. Its most recent victory came in the first round in 2004. Played on an indoor carpet court in Brno, Rafael Nadal and Tommy Robredo led the Spaniards to a narrow win.
