GOUVES CONSTRUCTION
SEEMS TO BE STRONG


As building activity continues at a good pace in the Gouves Township, with construction of two shopping centers, numerous individual stores and several home and apartment complexes currently in progress, the industry in the rest of Crete, as well as other islands and the mainland, is experiencing an ongoing downslide.

According to a recent report by the National Statistical Service, building activity, on the average, dropped 21.5 percent in volume in October 2009, compared with the same month in 2008.

The statistics service said that one of the worst regions is the southern Aegean, with a devastating 47 percent decline.
