Jump for Joy

In
previous columns we stressed the pressure we feel about various issues
facing us daily, believing that we too immature to make certain choices
important to our lives. We try hard to accomplish things, to get good
grades, to get certificates in foreigner languages, to pass the ballet
finals, to study and take the exams in the conservatoire and so many more…
But for whom do we do all these things? When, after much work and labour, we
get results, we usually go to our parents and say: "did you catch that? I
made it!" Or: "Did I make you proud?"
|
Never do we realize that all that, we do for ourselves. That everything we
have accomplished, we owe it to ourselves. That those around us will feel
happy for our successes but, beyond that, we are the ones who will feel the
satisfaction for the fruits of our labours.
What is
this feeling that overwhelms us when we accomplish something? What
transmitter sends these joyous waves through our whole beings? Our eyes
nailed to the paper, searching to find the printed result, with sweaty hands
trembling from stress and anticipation. And suddenly, the eyes fill nonstop
with tears, and a smile breaks out and stays put, and the tears keep coming,
but now from joy, and, Oh Boy! The joy is indescribable! And, with a fast
move of the hands we hurry and hug anybody standing next to us. And suddenly
it's time to reach another goal, another objective to work for, and another
dream to realize.
But the mind still tries to compute how the mission was done. The body
relaxes in a chair and the lips form a smile. A Great Big Smile. The smile
of satisfaction. And the "congratulations" we hear are beautiful melodies to
our ears. Perhaps they are a bit unnecessary but strangely enough they give
an extra push to go farther…to do more.
So, let's all have objectives and let's all make dreams, lots of dreams!
Just centre on that incredible winner's feeling. The feeling that makes you raise your arm in the
victory sign...that makes you want to jump for joy. Happiness, joy,
satisfaction, laughter, victory…so many words… but none can totally describe
that indescribable feeling.
