The Crete Golf Club in Hersonissos, last November went ahead with a

even though Greeks still have not been initiated in the golf culture like
the residents of most northern European countries, the fact that golf is one
of the 22 sports that will be included in the Special Olympics coming to
Athens in June, 2011, as well as the reinstatement of golf as an Olympic
sport starting with the Olympic Games 2016, fills local golfers with
optimism that the noble sport will continue to be increasingly popular.
"The projection of the sport in the Olympic Games could be the beginning for
the sport's wider acceptance in our country," says Mr. Kollaros.
