Members from Irida, the Women's Association in the Gouves Demos, attended a 12-hour seminar on First Aid. The seminar was held in Pano Gouves and was taught by nursing instructor-specialist Mrs. Evangelia Sakelariou-Eleftheraki from the Red Cross.

The classes included first aid instruction on trauma, hemorrhaging, fainting, burns, CPR and choking. Many new techniques were taught which replaced some of the old first aid rules. For example: in first degree burns just wash the area with plenty of tap water and forget all you knew about applying butter/vinegar/mayonnaise, etc. When a person faints put them immediately in the recovery position, which is on its side allowing the tongue to fall to the front so that breathing continues uninterrupted. Another first aid seminar for a second Irida group will take place after Easter.
