"A wrong idea prevails that the Municipal Police only give out tickets for illegal parking," commented Nea Alikarnassos' vice mayor Andreas Kypreos on the occasion of introducing the town's new police car.

"Actually, they do so much more." he continued. "They oversee the correct operation of the street market so that it's a safe environment for commercial transactions; they are responsible for the protection of all municipal property; they help residents in a series of transactions with the State, and much more."

The Municipal Police Department is located in the ground floor of the town hall; they have at their disposal two cars, and three motor bikes. The new service vehicle was budgeted at 23,000 euros supplied from the municipality's income.
