The 1st Aegean Mini Tour & Awards and Honours for Crete

Starting this year, with Aegean Airlines as sponsors, the institution of the Aegean Mini Tour was launched in Greece under the aegis of The Professional Golfers Association of Greece (Greek PGA).

The Cretan Team with Dimitris Kollaros, Lora Zarifi,
Sven Behnsen and Henrik Engdahl

It is a series of seven tournaments, each at a different course, which take place throughout the year. In each tournament we have the individual result (Open) where each player competes separately in a category proportional to his abilities, and the team result which is done in the Pro Am form, which is one professional and three amateurs competing as a team.

Finally, on a yearly basis the professionals compete for the title of the Aegean Mini Tour Order of Merit, where the total results of all seven tournaments are calculated.

In the first tournament, which took place in March in Porto Carras, the players representing Crete were:

Professionals: Henrik Engdahl, organizing director of the Aegean Golf Academy and Yannis Kakakis.

Open winner Henrik Engdhal

Amateurs: Mr. Yiorgos Kokotos, Eliana Kokotou, Spyros Kokotos, Dimitris Kollaros, Sven Behnsen and Lora Zarifi, all members of the Aegean Golf Academy.

The awards and honours that went to Crete were impressive. Mr. Henrik Engdahl was the top winner at the Open A-category and is ahead on the Order of Merit for professional golfers. Yannis Kakakis is in 22nd place. Moreover, in the Open category, Mr. Sven Benhsen was classified 2nd in the C-category of golfers on the Net.

In Pro Am, the team of Yannis Kakakis came in 8th out of 31 teams and Henrik Engdahl's team was 25th.

Note that the next tournament is in Rhodes, April 30 to May 3, and Crete will host the fifth tournament, September 30 to October 3 at the Crete Golf Club in Hersonissos.
