BUSKING IN KRITSA
AIDS MUSEQUALITY

World Busk Week (to entertain by dancing, singing, or reciting on the street) was celebrated in Kritsa with a dazzling display of street musicians and performers that delighted hundreds of local residents, visitors from neighbouring communities, and tourists.

The week-long events around the world (June 7-13) aimed to raise money for Musequality, an international organization which supports music projects for underprivileged children in the developing world that will foster self-confidence and growth in their social, intellectual and spiritual capacities.

Locally, Gillian Ruddick organized a programme of musicians to play along the newly paved street of Kritsa, which was later supported by the arrival of a large group of school children, who donated one euro each.

Among the many talented performers taking part in the events was noted musician and author Jane Sharp.

Ms. Ruddick, who also performed on the violin, said she hopes to make this an annual event, and reported that over 500 euros was raised during the week, “proving the hard work of all involved very worthwhile.”
