Letters to Juliet

This is definitely one for the ladies and, as “chick flicks” go, is one of the best to come out in recent years. It is all good dreamy fun with the romantic backdrop of the beautiful Tuscan countryside. Amanda Seyfried, stars as a Shakespeare fan and fact finder, who heads to Verona with her chef fiancée, played by Gael Garcia Burnel, for what is supposed to be a pre-honeymoon.  When they get there, Sophie is left to wander alone and she finds the courtyard of Romeo and Juliet, where she is fascinated by the volunteers who respond to the letters left for Juliet by the public. She ends up helping a widow, played by Vanessa Redgrave, search for her long lost love, delightfully played by Franco Nero, Redgraves’s love in real life, too. The film is accompanied by a lot of gushing romantic music and is very schmaltzy but is perfect for escaping into the world of true love for a couple of hours.
