End-of-Year School Events

In June we celebrated the annual farewell event of the Kokkini Hani Primary School which took place at the new school annex, a building truly civilized, especially if you compare it to the old annex – one of three - which operated until last Easter in unacceptable conditions.

Everyone enjoyed the terrific programme which the teachers had prepared with gusto, and in which all of the school children participated. And, like the song the children sang that evening said: “… and now to the fight again from the beginning…”, we do have a lot of fight and struggle in front of us, as it appears…for the construction of a 12-position primary school in Kokkini Hani, and also for many other schools in the Gouves municipality in both primary and secondary education levels.

A rich programme was also presented by the Art and Music Schools of Iraklion, where, for the first time, it co-organised the end-of-the-year ceremonies for their third year Lyceum students.

The celebrations took place at the courtyard of the old music school and included: in the first part, music with classical pieces and the farewell ceremony by all the third year students, and, in the second part, a musical titled “everything changes and everything remains the same”. There were also sketches and dance productions by the Art School as well as musical interludes with classical, traditional and contemporary pieces by the Music School. Another part of the ceremonies took place later in the month with the production of the play, “Emine,” by the Art School at the Vitouri Gate in Iraklion.

And last but not least, a well-received meeting for the students’ professional orientation was organized by the Gouves High School and was coordinated by Professor Maria Vlahaki. At the end of the meeting, the high school’s environmental team presented a theatrical performance. The team improvised on the script, sets and costumes with the guidance of Professors Dimos Karayiannis and Maria Polychroni. At the end of the performance, aromatic oils were offered which were made by the environmental team during the performance.
