CRETE GOLF WEEK
SET FOR OCTOBER

As one of the major events for Crete Golf Week, designated for October 17 through 24, The Crete Golf Club in Hersonissos has announced Women’s Team Challenge 2010, it was announced by club managing director Dimitris Kollaros.

“We are organizing a 54-hole team tournament with lots of extra activities for ladies from Crete, as well as from all over Europe,” Mr. Kollaros said. “This is the biggest team tournament for women across Europe, and it supports the pink ribbon campaign. But, hang in there, guys…in April 2011 it will be Gents Week.” According to Mr. Kollaros, the week will be full of activities, daily golf school with PGA professionals, daily workouts with a personal trainer, and lots of exciting golf on Crete’s only 18-hole professional course.

For visitors to Crete for the event, the five-star Creta Maris Hotel in Hersonissos will serve as the official hotel, which is offering a special package.

Throughout the week, there will be unlimited golf with golf buggy, free range balls, transports, training at one of the best golf schools in Europe - the Aegean Golf Academy, it will be daily golf school for all levels with a PGA Professional, and a personal trainer will be available.

The week will culminate with a gala cocktail party, and awards dinner.

For more information, and to register, go to: www.cretegolfweek.com/en or send an e-mail to info@crete-golf.gr

The Crete Golf Club is rapidly becoming known as one of the finest courses throughout Europe, and is best described as a desert-style lay-out, featuring expansive fairways hewn through rocks and ravines. First-time players soon realize that the emphasis is on accuracy, although the landing areas are generous enough to accommodate all but the most errant shots.

The modern Club House, which sits on a hill overlooking the first 9 holes of the course, features a spacious bar and restaurant where friendly and efficient staff serve a variety of food and drinks throughout the day. There is a large outdoor terrace area where golfers can relax and enjoy their meal or drinks in the sun and also a well-stocked Pro-shop in which visitors can purchase top-quality golf clothes, golf shoes, golf balls, Maui Jim Sunglasses and other souvenirs.

GOLF’S #1 LADY

Once Ai Miyazato of Japan stopped worrying about becoming the No. 1 player in women's golf, getting there was easy.

Dominating the LPGA Tour in a way akin to Annika Sorenstam and Lorena Ochoa, Ms. Miyazato cruised to her fourth win of the year and took over the top spot in women's golf with an impressive two-shot victory over M.J. Hur of South Korea in America’s recent $1.5 million ShopRite LPGA Classic.

“When I started playing in the States, that's when I really started thinking about being No. 1,” the 25-year-old golfer said. “That became a dream of mine, especially watching Annika and Lorena play. Now that I am No. 1, I still can't believe it, but I do feel very comfortable with it.”
