In the beginning, Stella had a small area in Karteros
provided by a friend. However, after a decade of dedication and hard work,
it has now expanded to six stremmata, including production grounds.
“The work with the plants needs love, good attitude
and persistence, and fortunately it is something that both my husband and I
have," she said.
In the nursery, there are about 10,000 species of
plants, and flowers are always blossoming both for indoors and out. In
addition, Stella offers a variety of flowerpots, irrigation systems,
different types of soils and much more. She has her own production of
plants, but also imports from Italy and Holland.
Regarding the pluses of the profession, she says: “We
work in a space that has a calming effect because of the abundance and
variety of plants. It is particularly pleasant to communicate with and serve
our customers, and that's something that helps us forget the long and
irregular hours of work. However, the caring of plants in an area of six
stremmata is tedious and tiring work because they are live organisms and
require particular handling."
Something that especially pleases Stella is the fact
that their plants are always of extremely high quality, and that her
husband, being an agriculturist, can advice and supervise in maintaining
gardens, etc.
With regard to her down time, she says it does not
really exist, but she tries to escape for short interludes two-three times a
year with her husband and two daughters, Katerina and Elpiniki.
About her future plans in the nursery, she says: “Soon
we intend to enclose the space and develop a larger parking area to
accommodate our expanding customer base. In the long run, we hope to add
five more stremmata with a still bigger variety of plants.”
Since Stella works with beautiful flowers almost every
day of the week, we asked her what her husband brings her on special
occasions, like Valentine’s Day.
“A box of chocolates would do just fine!”
