KAPI MEMBERS VISIT
KYTHIRA
ISLAND

The latest excursion for Hersonissos KAPI members and their friends from many surrounding towns was a thrilling four-day visit to the unique island of Kythira.
Still new to tourism, the sparsely-populated island is a cluster of small towns, and even smaller villages, but with a wealth of attractions, ranging from caves, fortresses and springs, as well as famous monasteries and churches.
The group was based in Agia Pelagia, and the ancient town of Kythira (Chora) was first point of call with its fortress commanding magnificent views, as well as a host of small and inviting lanes to discover new found treasures.
The island, part of the Ionian Islands group, is situated at the meeting point of the Ionian, Aegean and Cretan seas, and has a rich historical and cultural past, and has been fought over by the Arabs and Venetians, as well as Italians and British at various times, before being united with Greece in 1864.
It is one of the quietest islands of the Ionian and offers places of incredible natural beauty and authenticity, with charming medieval villages and astonishing deserted beaches.

Upon its return to Crete, the group was subjected to strike-related delays, like any ordinary tourists, but its happy memories of an exciting excursion were not diminished.
