Honouring their 10^th anniversary of holidaying in Aghios Nikolaos, Mayor Dimitris Kounenakis has presented a commemorative award to two English couples, the Pitchers and the Buckleys.

The two families came to Aghios Nikolaos on vacation, met at the Golden Apartments Hotel where they were both staying, became friends, were charmed by the Cretan people, fell in love with the island and since then they visit Aghios Nikolaos two or three times a year.

At the ceremonies, when the mayor asked if they can point out any negative aspects, they thought for some time and said: “the only thing that bothers us is the deafening noise that some motorbikes make.”

Mayor Kounenakis thanked them for their continuous love for Aghios Nikolaos and pointed out the importance of human relations that are developed with the locals.

“We are citizens of the world and above all we are Europeans,” the mayor said in presenting the award. “Thus we consider that you come to your homeland. We are grateful and we love you for visiting our parts for ten continuous years.”
