BLACK HOLE OF GOURNES

With the newly-completed National Highway glittering above, if you look below the surface in central Gournes you'll see this abominable black hole, totally void of workmen day-after-day (this photograph was shot on a Thursday at mid-morning – prime work time). Perhaps our town fathers, in their infinite wisdom, are thinking of keeping this underpass, which is supposed to service upper Gournes from the main road, status quo, since it's such an interminable source of mud when it rains and dust when it's dry. And, when the southern winds hit, it provides a dirt and sand storm that Lawrence of Arabia would have difficulty navigating.
