  Dear Editor:

I just had to write you an email, because I am hopping mad. I went to do my shopping in Xatzis, as usual, and the last couple of times I had thought to myself that’s expensive, for what I had bought. Anyway today, I had only bought a few things, and the girl said 22 Euros, I asked are you sure, please check it, and sure enough if was only 14 Euros. No apology nothing, so I went to speak to the girl in charge, and she said, oh she made a mistake because she thought you had bought 65 eggs not six. I said please does 6 eggs look like 65 to you, and she shrugged her shoulders, still with no apologies, and said check your bill next time. I want this printed so everyone who shops there does exactly that: check their bills.

Wendy Schinarakis

Dear Wendy:

Thank you for bringing this matter to the attention of our readers. This is the type of consumer information that is vital to a local community newspaper. How often have we witnessed cashiers at supermarkets doing other things, like carrying-on conversations with friends, while tallying our purchases? Perhaps by exposing these mistakes, management will become more diligent of their employees . . . and, perhaps, they may even apologize when these things do occur.

  Dear Editor:

My wife and I have been coming to Kokkini Hani on holiday for several years now, and we love it so much that we're moving there when I take early retirement next month. It's great to see that there's a newspaper like yours which services the English-speaking expats. Perhaps you could recommend a reliable estate agent that we could use in finding a home in the Gouves – Kokkini Hani area. Meanwhile, keep up the good work.

Walter Desmond, Liverpool

Dear Mr. Desmond:

Thank you for your kind words, and we are looking forward to having you and you wife as our new neighbours. Unfortunately, it is this newspaper's policy not to recommend and specific business or vendor. However, we can give you some important guidelines to follow when purchasing property on Crete. First of all, only use an accredited and experienced estate agent. Then check out its references by asking for a client list and contact information. If they refuse, got out of there fast. Good luck and we hope to see you soon.
