THE ROVING REPORTER'S
QUESTION OF THE MONTH IS:
"WHAT DO YOU LIKE BEST ABOUT LIVING IN CRETE?"
| |
| |
RELDA MOFFETT, Northern Ireland (Kokkini Hani): There is really so much I love about this place, that's why I'm building a house in Gouves. I really love the relaxed way of life that we have over here, and the friendliness of most of the people. Also, the climate is great, of course, and the food is wonderful. Even though you didn't ask, I'll tell you my dislikes, too: rubbish everywhere, abandonment of animals, Greek men with no manners, and unhelpful public servants! |
FRAN STRIDE, England (Elia): The climate is ideal, especially compared to the United Kingdom. And, of course, the wonderful way of life over here makes it an almost perfect place to live. I just love the Cretan people – well, most of them, anyway. There are always exceptions to the rule, unfortunately. Also, the money still goes further here, which, I guess, is the topping on the cake and what helps make it the "wonderful way of life" that it is! |

| |
JIM VAN 'T LAND, The Netherlands (Kokkini Hani): The best thing about living on Crete? Well now it's not the weather. The best is the safe environment. My kids can play on the street behind us, and I don't have to worry about them, even when it gets late. In Holland, after dark I always walked the dog, but now my wife can also do it because we feel safe here – except the traffic, they drive like maniacs here, but that's another story. Overall, Crete is probably the best place to raise our kids. |
DANIELLA ANDREADAKI, Hersonissos and Nottingham, UK: (Currently attending University in England): My father is Cretan, my mom is Australian and my step-dad is Scottish, so I've had the opportunity to live in several different countries. When considering what I like best about living in Crete it is difficult to pick just one thing, as there are so many. Some of these include the weather, the food, the way of life and, of course, the nightlife! |

| |
CHRISTIAN BRUNS, Germany (Gouves): For many years now, I lived here for eight months of each year, going back to Germany to work during winter months. That's because the salaries are so bad, here, that I need to make extra money to survive. There are many things I like about Crete, too many to list, so I'll just tell you what I don't like. You guessed it! The salaries! If they would pay decent wages, like in other EU countries, Crete would be an ideal place to live. But they must be doing something right, because I keep coming back – so far, at least. |
