NO JOY IN 'MUDVILLE'

There is no joy in Mudville is a line from a famous nineteenth century poem by Ernest Lawrence Thayer. It is also used to describe the feelings of residents of Pano Gournes – and that's not very poetic!
The surrounding area of the main underpass connecting Kato Gournes to Pano Gournes remains unfinished for more than a year, with mounds of loose dirt and rocks piled on the side of the road. A normal rain-shower produces enough mud to provide beauty treatments for every spa in Greece, and still have enough left over to supply all the mud-wrestling clubs. And, these recent storms??? Forgedaboudit.
Mud spattered cars and clothes, and mud tracks in the homes, have become a way of life for most of the residents, according to a recent survey. And they're fed up with it. A possible demonstration in front of town hall is being contemplated, with residents throwing mud balls at the building.
